Wine Cellar Rack Installation Project for a Tiny Closet in Miami, Florida

Regardless of the size of the room, your chosen wine cellar builder must provide a wine storage solution that will store your bottles safely and beautifully. Wine collecting has been a favorite hobby in many parts of the United States. Because of this, many residential owners invest time and money in a wine cellar built by an expert.

A well-designed wine storage area will not only protect one’s collection from harmful external factors but will also showcase the bottles exceptionally. It also increases the resale value of the home.

A client in Miami, Florida, contacted Vintage Cellars to create a design that will accommodate his precious wines in an unused closet in their modern home.

On this project, Vintage Cellars proved that an elegant wine storage facility could be built regardless of space constraints. With extensive experience in building wine cellars, they designed the wine racks with custom features and crafted them with one of the most sought-after types of wood in the construction industry. Vintage Cellars also made sure that the space was maximized for increased bottle capacity.

With a dimension of 7 feet wide, 5 feet deep, and 9 feet high, the closet was transformed into a custom wine cellar for 812 bottles.

Elegant Styles and Features of the Wine Rack System

The first step in designing a wine cellar is to make a careful assessment of the client’s needs. When doing this, we consider the location and size of the room, the number of bottles intended to be stored in the cellar, and the budget and aesthetic preference of the owner.

After this stage, 3-dimensional drawings will be created. See below the CAD drawings created by Vintage Cellars for this Miami installation project. The images showed the different elevations of the wooden wine racks and the bottle orientations as well.

Left and Right Wall Racking

The left (Elevation 1) and right (Elevation 2) walls of the wine room consist of the same style of racking. The top section has bottle openings intended for single bottle storage and a rectangular bin wine rack with four levels. Each level can hold four 750 ml bottles or two magnums lying on their sides.

Vintage Cellars added a high reveal display row that runs the middle of the left and right walls. This type of bottle orientation allows for highlighting a few of the collector’s favorite wines at a 15-degree angle. It also prevents the cork from drying out, preserving sealing ability.

The cork shrinks and becomes brittle when it dries up. When this happens, an unwanted amount of oxygen will enter the bottle and mix with the wine. This will damage the wine’s quality, resulting in a waste of investment.

There are six more rectangular bins in the bottom section, which are intended for bulk storage, maximum storage capacity, and better organization. The bottles can be stored on top of each other according to type or varietal.

Back Wall

The back wall (Elevation 3) has a solid arch tabletop that features a beautiful piece of artwork in a rectangular frame attached to the wall.

The tabletop provides an area for decanting and serving wine. The client can also display some of his wine cellar accessories. Vintage Cellars installed a puck light above the tabletop.

Around the arch are individual storage openings for standard bottles. Another wine rack for bulk storage is the diamond bins, which were added below the tabletop.

Smart Choice of Rack Material for an Elegant Wine Cellar Display in Miami

Wood has been a favorite material in wine rack construction because of its many benefits. It creates a warm and relaxing ambiance in residential wine cellars.

It is also stable and sturdy. With many types of wood available, it is best to consult with your chosen builder about the most suitable material for your storage needs.

Vintage Cellars used Premium Redwood for this project. It is naturally beautiful, with a reddish color that deepens over time.

It is also highly resistant to mildew and can withstand humid conditions in a climate-controlled wine cellar. For the stain, they used the Dark Walnut color to complement the flooring.

Wine Cellar Cooling System

Another important component of a wine cellar is the refrigeration system. It plays a significant role in achieving the optimum conditions needed by wine for graceful aging.

Vintage Cellars always makes sure that an efficient wine cooling unit is installed in their client’s cellar to ensure that the ideal temperature (between 55-65 degrees Fahrenheit) and humidity levels (60-70 percent) are achieved.

For this closet conversion project, they chose a ducted self-contained wine cooling system from Wine Guardian. The unit, which was installed in the attic above the ceiling, sits on a platform, with a drain pan underneath. In the absence of the attic, the unit can be placed outdoors, 25 feet away from the cellar.

Wine Room Door

With an aim to ensure that the client’s wine collection is safe, Vintage Cellars also makes sure that the wine cellar door is not only eye-catching but is also commercial grade and well-sealed.

A dual Barolo glass door was chosen for this home wine cellar. All of the sides were equipped with weather stripping to prevent the cool air from escaping from the room and the warm air from entering in. The glass used was dual paned and thermally insulated to help create an airtight seal and reduce condensation.

There are lots of ways to keep glass doors air-tight. Even if the glass panels come without frames like what you see on this project, our team can still ensure that your collection is well-protected.
